    Clutch Push Rod

I recently installed a new Clutch Push Rod and Clutch Rod Boot. What is the best type of lubricant to use on the rod to help it slide in and out of the boot when the clutch is depressed and released?

    Thanks

I would recommend Silicone Di-Electric Grease. This grease is available in auto parts stores and is also available from GM although I don't have the part number handy at the moment.

Richard --- Other than initially installing the boot on the clutch rod, from there on, it doesn't slide; it flexes, with the center collar moving with the rod, and the outer ring fixed to the firewall. Just make sure that when the clutch is fully depressed, the boot is not stretched to its limit.

I don't think the boot is meant to slide on the push rod. Once it's installed and the clutch actuated a few times, the boot finds it's own best position and from then on is meant to grip the shaft. The body of the boot (in theory) is meant to be flexible enough to move with the push rod.

If you lubricate it, and it slides, the grease will tend to accumulate dirt which will cause the boot to wear.

        I would leave it dry.
