Went to recover my '62 arm rests. I know I can buy new reproduction ones. But I'm trying to keep using the few original-to-my-car parts that I've got left. My car is like George Washington's hatchet. So I'm recovering the thing. 2 questions:
1. How thick is the foam pad?
2. I'm going to paint the bases with some chrome paint that I found at the FLAPS. Any comments on others who have done this? How'd it come out?
(This is a Winter project. I find things like this to do in the Winter. I take the thing I'm fixing inside because it's freezing out in the unheated garage. It's a hobby. Keeps my outta bar rooms and pool halls. I'll now go and buy lots of single use junk to do the task. Spend more money on the supplies, special tools, and fixtures than if I bought new arm rests. Screw around with them for a few frustrating weeks. Do research on the Internet. Buy more stuff from Corvette vendors. Then finally throw the old arm rests away after I screw them up beyond all recognition. Ah, but it's a hobby.)
