Does anyone have a recommendation for a practical lead hammer for knock off wheels? The original is not so great

Jim, Most of the tool guys (Cornwell, Mack, Matco, Snap On) Sell plastic deadblow Hammers. You can get weights up to 12lbs (very heavy). The 3 or 5 1/2 lb hammers seam to be the best. The plastic is strong and there is no way you will dammage the chrome. Check it out. I have been using these for years. Good luck, JoeComment

In addition to the hammer - I recommend the KO tool from Dennis Portka. It eliminates pounding on your spinners, gives you leverage and minimizes the chance of hitting the body or wheels on a miss.Comment
