    Electricity & A Merry Christmas

Electricity, something we all take for granted. After hoping for all kinds of new gadets for my toys, the one thing I really ended up needing was electricity. We just went through 39 hours without it in frigid weather, high of 16 today, minus 6 last night. Staying up most of the night to keep the fire going, keeping gas in the generator and rotating the extension cord from the generator to the different appliances gives you time think about how lucky you really are. For some people in the world cold weather and no electricity is a way of life.

Anyhow Santa delivered the electricity on Christmas eve, we now have all the comforts of home again. So in closing I just want to wish everybody a MERRY CHRISTMAS and I hope every one gets what they wished for.

I would also like to thank all the people on this board, you know who you are, that take the time and patience to pass on the valuable information you have.

While not as bad, and dangerous, as no electricity in freezing weather, the eight days and nights we spent in 95+ deg. humidity after Hurricane Charley hit SW Fla. come in a close second (no generator). Nature is a cruel mistress.
My new, 160MPH- wind resistant garage door goes up next month. Still, we are ALL blessed. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to all!!

        Terry,

My area was hit in the same manner, though I didn't lose mine, it wasn't too far from me that had a blackout. Nothing like a white Christmas, eh? The state highway department gave me a 3 foot wall of ice and snow at the end of my drive for Christmas. Glad to hear you're back in the business of enjoying your Christmas. Happy Holidays!

We got tired of having no power (from Detroit Edison, a/k/a the world's worst public utility company), especially when we were away for the weekend when the power went off, thus weren't around to wheel the 5KW generator outside and plug it into the receptacle. After coming home to warm freezers on two weekends within a month, we put in a natural gas-powered 18-KW Generac fully-automatic standby generator system; our timing was perfect, as five weeks later we had the "big regional outage" in August, 2003 for three days. We lost power for eight seconds - all we had to do was re-set all the digital clocks; we'll never be without power again, whether we're home or not.
