rear shock dating

I came across a set of rear shocks #3171489 dated 6C68 can anyone tell me their application and how to decifer the date code??? (does 6C68=Mar 6 1968??) thanks in advance!! HN

The GM# 3171489 shocks were called out when F41 heavy-duty suspension was ordered. Interesting enough, both the 68-69 and 70-72 tech manual reference the julian date code but those I've seen are in the format you described. We see the Julian date code used in the mid to late model C3 years. The "C" is either as you indicated the month "march" or the third month of the production year or November.

F-41and F-40 shocks have alpha numeric date code----with the DDMYY code. 6th day, 3rd month(March), 1968. All PARTS date from Jan"A", Feb."B"etc. Only car build dates date from the "A"=Aug. etc.depending on the model year.
