    C-2 Body mount removal tricks??

I am getting prepared to pull the body on my 67 coupe. I have been soaking the body mounts with PB Blaster for a few weeks now. I know the 4 mounts under the cage will be tough. You guys have any tricks to get these mounts apart. Thanks, Kurt

    Kurt,

Surprised no one has responded. This can be, as you know already, a real ugly job. I changed all my mounts two years ago, the only real bad ones were the rear ones, body mount # 4. Keep it wet with your PB Blaster or Castle Thrust if you can find it, I think it works better. If you have access to a compressor and an impact wrench try it as the shock will sometimes work. Patience is the best tool you can find. Also check the archives for other input.

If they are really rusted in place and nothing else seems to work you could try some Muratic Acid applied a litte bit at a time like with an eye dropper or turkey baster type of applicator and let it eat the rust away. It is very nasty stuff and IF you try it make sure you do it outside so the fumes dissipate quickly. This technique isn't for everyone.

I resorted to my die grinder and ground the heads off.

After the body was off, I dealt with the caged nuts and the remaining bolt shanks with a lots of heat and vise grips.

You have to be carful with the #4 mounts as you can actually spin the nuts out of the cages if they are really rusted in, so be careful there.

If you go this route, be sure to wear long sleeved shirts, heavy gloves, safety glasses and hearing protection.

Give Em H _ ll Kurt!

Just time consuming and tedious that's all.
