My 68 and 70 owners manuals state that the clutch fork ball stud and clutch fork fingers at the release bearing are to be lubricated at 24,000 miles with a moly disulfide grease. I have lubricated these areas when I replaced the clutch and later replacement of the throwout bearing, but not every 24,000 miles. I have never tried to remove the clutch fork with the transmission still in the car. Can this be accomplished?

There's no way to remove the clutch fork with the transmission still in the car. Even if one could find a way to do it, it would be utterly impossible to re-install it. I don't know why GM makes this recommendation, although it might be possible to get a little grease into the fork/ball joint interface using a long, thin brush with the fork boot removed. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Clutch Fork Lubrication
My '91 MR2 (39K miles) periodically develops a clutch release squeak. It has a release mechanism architecture just like a vintage Corvette, except the pushrod engaging the clutch release fork is hydraulically rather than mechanically actualled. I find that I can use an "industrial strength" Q-tip (wood stick) to get a dap of EP disk brake wheel bearing grease around the ball stud, by peeling back the boot and using a dental mirror. The grease flows a bit with engine heat and the squeak goes away for a year or two.
If your car develops a "release squeak" you can try this method to get a little grease on the ball stud. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.
