    BB Felpro Gasket Installation

I am installing the FelPro 1630 valve cover gaskets on my 1966 427/425. I have read that these are the best available for solving hard to stop leaks. The FelPro installation instructions recommend cementing the gasket to the cover using a good quick-drying adhesive. What should I use? Would ultra copper silicon be alright? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Al,
I believe the Ultra Copper Silicone is an RTV sealant, not an adhesive. If you want to go whole hog, FelPro sells a gasket adhesive, but I doubt it is much more than contact cement. 3M Super Weatherstrip cement is the same (or very similar) thing. I have used the latter as gasket cement with good results. On the other hand, it you don't have any of the weatherstrip or contact cement already on hand, the FelPro product should be available from the same place you got the gaskets.

I've used Permatex black silicone adhesive seal (16B) with good results. You can easily remove the excess that squeezes out with plain rubbing alcohol. If the valve covers and gasgets have the notches and tabs, they should pretty much stay in place without the quick drying adhesive. The instructions suggest the quick drying type only to hold in place, not necessarily for a good leak-proof seal. I would only use the quick drying type if you need to to hold the gasket in place, and only as much as necessary in a couple of spots. The silocone based products will provide the best seal to prevent leakage.

This product(598B) works good too, a little more difficult to clean-up and remove.

My stock 66 427/425 has 0 valve cover leaks with no use of sealants - I use standard original type cork gaskets with the stock bolts and retainers. Are your valve covers stock? Are they straight and undamaged?
