I don't have the old dates, but the UAW contractual Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays 31 years ago were nowhere near as liberal as they are today; I don't recall getting the Friday after Thanksgiving off, or the entire week between Christmas and New Year's Day, or Good Friday either. Shoulda kept my old pocket calendars I was a Production Superintendent at Lordstown in 1973, and it was hard to differentiate the strikes from the holidays

Hi John, Yea you guy's at Lordstown has alot of problems between management and the UAW, speeding up the line, quality issues with the Vega and sabotage, etc. You were under the 70 UAW contact and I don't have the exact dates of holidays. I worked at Delco Products in 76(retired this year) and we had the IUE union and our contact usually mirrored the UAW deal. Today they do have alot more days off...Veterans Day, Martin Luther King, Independence shutdown(2 weeks)and a couple floaters here and there. I guess we have to get some more old timers to help Roger out on this one. Come on guy's let figure this one out.Save the Wave. Happy Holiday for 04.>George

I was in the plant in '72 and I believe we were on the full 2 week shutdown at that time. In '63 when I started it was 1/2 day off for Christmas Eve and full day Christmas day, then 1/2 day new years eve and full day new years day. Caused a lot of problems on the 1/2 day schedule. I think the 67 or 70 contract ended that setup.

My observations of 1968-1972 Corvette production for the week between Christmas and New Years is that it depended on the production schedule. Either that or the Union contract was a lot more flexible than I expect. Some years there were Corvette bodies built in that week, and other years there were not. You may have to find someone who has noted a lot of 1973 body build dates to get your answer.
