    1994 Corvette cooling fans

I need some help on 1994 Corvette LT1 cooling fans. The primary fan does not come on at all. The secondary fan will come on when the temperature guage is about 245deg or when the A/C is turned on. I figured the temperature sensor in the waterpump was bad so I replaced it and no change.

I then started diagnosing the system. Both fans run when direct connected. There is power to the primary and secondary side of both relays. Both relays bench test good. Looking at the Service Manual, I figured since everything else tests good it must be the computer. Replaced the computer....no change.

During further testing another thing cropped up. When the temperature sensor is unplugged, both fans start up regardless of temperature. They turn off after a few seconds when the sensor is plugged back in. Typically, if I unplug the sensor and jumper the plug, both fans turn on, these turn on without the jumper.

I will appreciate any thoughts or suggestions as to what to look at next.

    Thank you,

    Verle

    Verle,

The fans are programmed thru the chip in the computer. This can be altered or custom programmed by a lot of shops. Most people just wire the fans with a switch or directly wire them so that both come on when the ignition is switched on. Engine runs cooler that way.

The stock programming is for the primary to come on about 225 deg. This primary never comes on. I replaced the computer with one with known stock programming and the primary still did not come on.

      Any other thoughts?

      Thank you,

        Verle,

Yes, I guess that is why most people just quit worrying about it and wire the thing up direct. Then it comes on when the ignition key is on.
