    C-1-style shifter

I bought a 62 fuelie a while back that the guy blew the motor on in 76, and it sat since. (So it's not a car that's been messed up at any time in the past 30 years--58,000 miles before a rod went through the side of the block.)
Mounted to the "original" transmission--(cast iron case, October/November 62 dates so it's definitely not the original)is a shifter that looks exactly like a 60-62 Corvette shifter. The problem is, it's exactly three inches longer than the Corvette shifter! (11" from the top of the cross shaft to the top of the shifter rod, vs. 8" for the Corvette)
It has the T-handle for reverse access, has the thin chrome shifter shaft, and has the proper "sleeve" that attaches to the shaft within which the cable for the T-handle operates. So it looks and functions exactly the same--but it's three inches longer.
The rods are definitely T-10 rods, but are not configured exactly like the Corvette rods, nor are the shifting levers that bolt to the side cover the same.
It's a stock arrangement from something that vintage--the October/November 92 dates on the tranny make me think it might all be off a 63--but a 63 what?
    Pontiac? Olds? Impala?
Anybody help? WHAT'S IT COME FROM?
    Thanks!

    Mike,

Possibly an Impalla SS of that vintage.

Pontiac GP and 2+2 of the '62 era carried a shifter such as you describe.

Pontiac of that '62 era also used the CI case T-10 with aluminum tail.
