C2 OFFROAD CHAMBERED EXHAUST ADVICE

Seeking your professional advice re: under car chambered exhaust systems. I have a 66 L-36, org low mileage car, N-11. I just purchased this car from its org owner this summer with all org GM documentation, #'s car but the under car exhaust/muffler system is on it's last legs and is very quiet. I do not want to add side pipes and hurt the originality of this car, although want the sound of sidepipes.

I know this is probably elementary to most, but just learning here (first vette) and would like to know about adding the under car chambered exhaust systems front to back.
- Is this a good move?
-Aluminum or Stainless?
- Where is the best place to purchase for best product and price?
- Will this type of system add some bite/growl to my 427 or other alternatives?

If you look around you could probably find some original replacements out there. I would very carefully remove the originals and save them as references. I don't think you will find that repro is anything like the original. If you watch ebay, you might run across some. I would use aluminized over stainless. Just my preference on keeping things as close to original when you can't find the original. You might be able to find some plain steel pipes that are not aluminized out there also. It is my understanding that repro looks different in the bends compared to original.

I think a lot of people are sorry when they can't hear themselves think after they install side exhaust. It gets old fast and you would have to modify the car to put them on and that would be a shame on such a nice car.

Thanks Terry: I'm looking at the UNDER CAR aluminized Chambered Exhaust in the Corvette Central magazine (Corvette America also), I'm NOT adding side pipes rather looking for that sidepipe SOUND. Just wondering if anyone has this under car chambered system and their experience.

Also looking for opinions on the off-road exhaust mufflers. Best quality, who makes them and where to get them. I understand the Org GM muffler and off road exhaust system is no longer available. Cheers..........

I have the chambered exhaust with my 66 350 horse and can compare it to the side exhaust on the same engine as my previous car had the side exhaust. It seem that the under belly has the same snarl and growl to wake up the neighbors, but it goes out the back rather than right by your ear. Definately a more livable system and it would clearly be my choice. For what it's worth my system is aluminized.

I have a set of NOS N11 mufflers in my garage rafters - NOT FOR SALE. I also have a set of chambered undercar pipes on the car (67 327-350hp). The sound is loud like the side pipes and sound very close in tonal quality to that system. And yes the sound is at the rear of the car so it isn't quite so objectionable. I also have a set of welded mufflers and pipes for when I tire of the loudness in the rafters.

What is the difference between 'off-road' mufflers and chambered exhaust? Are off-road mufflers the same basic size/shape of the base/stock mufflers? Mounted in the same location as base/stock mufflers?

The difference between N11 off road undercar and standard exhaust is in the number of internal baffles in side the muffler that is welded to the rear exhaust pipe. A N14 off road exhaust is the side exhaust option, and it is a chambered pipe. The undercar chambered system is a NEW variant on the side pipe. Same sound, different outlet location.
