Is it my imagination or does the software now post replies in chronological order? This makes those of us who feel we must impose order on the Universe very pleased.

Yes it has been doing that for quite some time. Your cookies kept you tuned into the preferences that you had set way back when. When you lost your cookies you came back to the default way the board reads. I changed the default some time ago.
