    Richmond 5-speed

Does anyone have any experience installing a Nash/Richmond 5/6-speed in a C-2 or C-2? I know what a bear it is to get the T-10/Muncie out with that fixed cross member, and the Richmond has a longer main case. I ordered my '63 340 with a 4-speed (CR, of course) and a 3.08 posi diff. It's like a 5-speed with no first gear. Though it's neat to be able bust every posted speed limit in the country in first gear, it does reduce around town flexibility, and I don't want to take any stoplight guff from kids in Hondas. Also, what do you do for linkage? If I bring the T-10 to an Event in a box to show I still have the original gearbox will the judges give me back any points? (Just kidding....Still working on my e-mail -- have completed drafts ready to send, but I still can't upload to my server.)

Change it to a wide box, all that is needed is the imput and cluster. I have a set, there are many others around. You can also drill the early case for the larger 1 inch counter gear shaft and tap in to the newer gear sets.

I'm putting a Richmond 5 speed in my 67 chevelle, a bear on this car. I switched the 60 vette to a wide box Muncie, a no brainer in that car, has a cross member that comes out.

Thanks Wally, but I don't like the big 3/4 gap on the wide-ratio, plus I really dont't want to mess with the original T-10. Still looking for input on the Richmond installation in a C2/C3. Any body out there ever done it.

Duke, Unless you do alot of highway driving, why not just swap a set of 3.70 gears for the 3.08s. Your car would be a real kick around town and the change is "invisible".

          Yo, Duke of Earl.....

Here's the deal on the DN/Richmond 5 speed. Good choice, by the way, have your gears and eat your cake.

Minor modification to the transmission mount bracket, directions come with the tranny, you must remove the tail shaft housing and the emergency brake pulley, install the tranny, install the tailshaft housing and the pulley, hook up all the rest of the stuff, and you're gonne.

          Simple, straight foreward install.

And where will the shifter end up? In the stock location? It sounds like no mods to car will be allowed on this deal.

Shifter ends up in the stock location, or at least it did on a friends 75.

Oops, forgot about one other thing.....

The length of the 5 speed is the same as the Muncie, no change in shifter location, but the rear yoke must be changed to the fine spline from a TH400.
