    1100696 Alternator

Just purchased a correctly date coded 1100696 alternator for my 66 to replace the wrong alternator I had installed. The question I have is on the wrong alternator the "plug" outlet was at the 12 o'clock position when installed. The new alternator has the outlet at three o'clock. Is there a "correct" placement for this on the rear of the alternator?

Bought the date coded correct alternator to help in future judging. Would not want to lose points for this.

    Thanks

you can take out the bolts and rotate the back of the case to 3-6-9-12.

Included in the design of the "696" and other unique Corvette alternators is the positioning of the front and rear sections to allow the correct wire routing as spec'd for the Corvette. It may be evident from the Assembly manual which orientation is correct. Typically the incorrect orientation will not correctly position the clip on the wiring harness to plug into it's assigned hole in the alt.

Tim, I looked at the Assembly manual when I clocked mine to the 3 o'clock position. Kurt

          Tim:

Mines at 12 o'clock. I was wondering the same thing and have seen others at 3 o'clock too. In the Corvette 1966-82 Shop Manual book I have it shows it at 12 noon. I'm keeping mine at the 12 o'clock position. Hope this helps.

My 1966 693 alternator is at the 3 o'clock position. I can send a photo of the original if you send me a quick email. The judging manual states: "The rear case square gray wire plug is oriented 90 degrees clockwise...".
