Thank you Joe Lucia for your help on the alternator. The clocking on the one that is on the car is correct. In the early 1970's I went to the local Delco distributer and bought a NEW alternator for my C2 with A/C. I guess I got an alt. for a passenger car with A/C. I have had this car since the early 70's and just now started to learn about it. thanks again to ALL. Dale

You didn't necessarily get the "incorrect" alternator as far as SERVICE parts are concerned. The GM #1100694, although used in PRODUCTION for 1965-67 Corvettes, was not always catalogued as the replacement for all of those years. By 1969, it was catalogued as the replacement for 1962-65 Corvettes only. The GM #1100849 was, by then, catalogued as the replacement for all 1966-67 Corvettes with 61 amp alternator as far as the GM PARTS SYSTEM was concerned. The parts man goes by the book with alternators and doesn't bother to match up part numbers; there's no need to and, in most cases, it would prove futile. Many PRODUCTION alternator part numbers are NEVER available in SERVICE from day-one.
I can only guess as to just how you got the 1100742. The Delco parts system often differs from the GM parts system with respect to parts cataloguing, especially with respect to alternators. Indeed, that's the case here. As of 1968, the Delco system part number for a NEW alternator for a 1966 Corvette with 327 and A/C was GM #1100750. For a 1966 Corvette with 427 and A/C it was GM #1100742. For 1967 Corvettes it was the GM #1100750 for all with A/C applications. So, I suspect that this is how you wound up with the 1100742. By the early 70s the 1100742 may have replaced the 1100750 in the Delco parts system. Even though both the GM parts system and the Delco parts system had the 1100694 alterator available as of the early 70s, it was NOT catalogued for 1966-67 Corvettes so you wouldn't have been sold that alternator unless you specifically asked for it by part number. Like most folks, you probably told the partsman your APPLICATION and he looked up the catalogued alternator.
I'm different than most folks. I haven't ordered a part by APPLICATION in over 25 years. Since then, I order EVERY part by PART NUMBER ONLY.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
