Factory correct black dash paint sheen- C2??

Ladies & Gentlemen: Can someone who is in the know please tell me what sheen of the color black to paint my 66 Dash center, not the console or pads but dash area around the radio, knobs/bezels, clock, speaker grille, etc.

I have various opinions ranging from flat, to semi-flat, to black satin to semi-gloss. What is factory correct?

    Your help is much appreciated.

    Cheers/Keith.

At least in the old paint chart, it was referred to as "low gloss 3degree", more glossy than flatbut less than full gloss. A Paint store might have a more accurate description, but I don't believe "satin" is too wide of the mark as a desctiption. For reference, full gloss is referred to as 60 degree, and flat as "0" gloss.

      Keith,
Krylon semi flat black, which you can purchase in spray cans, works perfectly and is what the majority of high end restorers use. It will give you the factory look and sheen. Be very careful to remove all traces of any kind of silicon or polish before spraying or you may get fisheyes. If you do you can simply begin again after removing the first try. Don't overspray.....use light multiple coats and let dry a few moments between coats.

Thanks Rick, I'm going leave the dash in it's factory place. My L-36 only has 39,000 original miles on it and I don't want to take everything out. I've hired a professional car interior painter who will use an small air-brush and multiple coats. He just needs to know from me what black color sheen he should use.....thank-you for your info....Cheers/KEith.

I prefer SEM Trim Black in the original (i.e. non the gloss) sheen.
It matched my car dead on, and I find it wears better than Krylon.

Most larger non-Autozone type stores will carry it.
