'65-'66 VENT WINDOW CRANK HANDLE FINISH

Did original '65-'66 vent window crank handles have a perfectly smooth finish on the rotating knob when new? Used, originals I've seen have a very light, even, uniform roughness to them. Is this just light pitting from age or an intentional finish?

Just returned from the garage after checking my original '65.

The finish on the rotating knob is smooth. It matches the smooth finish on the crank handle. Same is true for the handle that operates the side window.
