    NOS (?) '62 Dash Pad

Rummaging thru my parts again....Found a '62 dash pad that I purchased from Stoudt Auto Parts in 1984. Hand-written in red on the end of the cardboard box is N.O.S. and there is a very small piece of white tape that says GM & something about "re-sealed". The pad is brown in color and I do remember someone saying that they came that way and had to be dyed red. I can't find any markings anywhere on the pad inside or out. There was also a small metal "bracket" in the box. Is it possible that this is really NOS...? Is there anyway to tell? Is there anyone in the Westchester, NY area that anyone could recommend to install this (my orig is showing some where and tear)? THANKS ALL

Re: NOS (?) '62 Dash Pad

it's almost certainly a NORS pad. i too bought one from chevy in the 70's and it was tan and would need dyed to match interior. in early 90's took it out of gm cardboard box and the vinyl cracked with little or no stress applied. just for heck of it, i thought i'd practice installing the POS to gain experience in later installing an al knock repo. a considerable amount of tweaking would have been required to install the NORS had it been usable. Al's early 90's pad required considerable removal of the foam backing to get good fit. couple years ago i insatlled one of AL's latest rendition and it required little or no removal of the foam backing. i'd not try and use the old gm nors pad. get a new Al repo. regards, mike

In my opinion, it doesn't matter - after 20 years the pad is unusable, due to shrinkage.
