1 more question about Kustom L88 Headers

Did any of the Kustom L88 headers ever come with fittings/attachment points to attach the AIR pump tubes? If so I assume it would either be "late" versions, or maybe a CA version?

Everette, either in the Chevy Power Manual, or the Kustom catalog there was instructions as how to add fittings for the AIR tubes

Everett, I just removed a sidepipe set (4" diameter, blk headers)from a 68 L-88. I can't find the stamped in #s. Do you have part #s on yours? Where?

Bob, I don't own a set (yet). Possibly looking to buy... I have heard that the numbers may be on the flange (near the head). I am sure Dick knows where they were stamped.

Dick, I found my old Chev. Power books (1970 and 1971) with all the header part numbers for large and small block, but no reference to any AIR fittings. May be in the Kustom catalog as you stated.

Everette, it may actually have been on the installation instructions/ I installed three sets in 69-70, '68 Camaro with built open chamber L/88 (originally 396-375 L-89), '60 Vette with built LT-1 (both these cars still have the Kustom's installed), and '67 Vette with built open chamber L/88. (This was the car that Reba drove to school every day. Ask her about it) Serious street racing in my area in those days

I have seen one '68 L/88 with smog. It was at Bloomington in the mid '90's. It is not hard to do. Purchase 8 1/4" black iron pipe nipples and 8 1/4 IPT male by 3/8" (I believe, verify size by using manifold tree) female tube fittings. Using the tree as a template, locate the fittings on the header tubes. Drill holes in the header tubes the size of the O. D. of the pipe nipples. I would heliarc the nipples in the header tube leaving about 1/2 of the length exposed. Screw in the adapter and repeat eight times. You should be ready to install the trees. This is the best recollection of the smog installation that my litle pea pickin' brain has.

The part numbers were crudely hand stamped in the flanges of the Chevrolet Kustoms. The speedshop sets had no numbers. BTW I ran up with the men that made Kustom's. They were in JR Jonson's race shop hand fabricating headers for the cars that Darryl Waltrip drove.
