    Battery disconnect switch question.

Anyone ever had any problems with their battery disconnect switch effecting their transitorized iginiton and keeping the car from revving to 6500 RPM?

My car is a 67 L-71. I'd just like to know if these switches has effected anyones cars performance. I don't suspect any problems with mine but have wondered about how well they are grounded compared to the direct (stock) attachment and if it may effect the iginition.

    Any input appreciated.

George, I have one of those guillotine types on both of the LT-1's and have had no problems. They work perfectly and give the piece of mind we all need.

Do you put the disconnect switch on the positive or negative (ground) terminal?

Since I am planning on buying a battery cutoff switch for my 72 with side terminals, let me ask the question. Does it matter which pole you put it on and does it matter whether you buy the guillotine style or the screw type?

        Thanks, Gary

          Gary & Chris,

Some folks have had problems with the "green knob" switch on high compression engines in starting. The contact area on these switches is marginal and you must be sure they are tightened securely. All it takes is a time or two leaving them loose and the contacts burn to the point where they fail on starting or intermittently fail in operation.

I have never heard of anyone having trouble with the knife blade or guillotine type.

I believe either type will be a difficult install on a 1969 side terminal battery (where the terminals face the front of the car).

Electrically there is no difference whether you mount it on the positive or negative cable. Use whichever is more accessible for mounting and/or operation.

          Terry

Gary - I have the screw type on the neg post of the battery in my 70. Have had no problems. If I remember the instructions say to put it on the pos side. Since the batterys in our cars are in the drivers side compartment behind the seat, I don't think you would have good luck with the other type. In fact I think the screw type is the only one that will work with the side terminal bolt in set up and I think the other type is only for the types of batterys with posts. Putting it on the neg terminal also puts it closer to the door and just a little easier to reach. Hopefully, I'm not risking anything doing it this way. I'm sure somebody will tell me if I am.

Mine is installed on the Neg. post and is the Green screw down/up contact type. Works fine but as previously mentioned has a small surface area of contact as compared to a full attachement.

That's why I was wonding if anyone in particular had a trans/ign or any ign problems at all from these units being in service. Or one pole verses another effecting any performance to the ignition systems.
