66 427 Water Pump Flange - JM Wrong ?

The judging Manual for 1966 states flat rear plate on the BB water pump. I understand for 1966 that 427's used the 3856284 water pump with the crimped or flange backing plate and large pan head screws. 1965 396's used the 3856284 water pump with the flat backing plate and large pan head screws. Some of the very early 1966 427' water pumps may have the flat backing plate left over from 396 engine production.

Do you agree with this premise ?

The judging manual is correct. The flat plate was used until some time in early or possibly mid 66 production.

I just spoke with Bob Jorjorian to get his opinion also and he too agrees with the time of change to the thin flanged 2nd design plate.
