    1967 Qriginal Tire ?

I've come across a tire that was housed in the tire tub of a very original 1967 corvette. It is a Goodyear Silverton 660. The tire does not have any DOT markings. However, there is SAE with a serial #,that is a mixture of numbers and letters(eight total). Is this an original tire, or a later service replacement? Thanks for any help. Lou

    Lou,
The eight number/letter code indicates its a pre January 1971 tire. I believe DOT markings started around 1968 so if the Silvertown 660 is a factory correct tire for a 1967 then you would in fact have an original.

There was a BF Goodrich Silvertown tire. Don't recall a Goodyear Silverton.

I think that series of numbers and letters will give you the manufacturing date of the tire but I don't remember how to decipher it.
