    The answer to your first question is "yes". But I would absolutely not do so. the labor involved to replace a heater core is painstaking at best. I would invest in a brand new unit, and test IT before installing.

      I had my 66 original heater core tested, cleaned and reinforced by a radiator shop specializing in vintage car radiator and heater repairs. My nozzles were reinforced with solder at the base where they go into the heater. I ws told by the shop owner that the mid year heater cores were a very sturdy design and he seldom had seen problems with them. I just flushed and filled my cooling system with Zerex G-05. Only time will tell if he ws correct.
