    C4 lower control arm bushings

I'm replacing lower control arm bushings on an 87. Upon removal of the old bushings I found quite a bit of corrosion in the bushing bore of one control arm. I cleaned up the corrosion and noticed that the fit of the new urethane bushing in that bore is ALMOST a "drop in" fit while the bushings in the non corroded bore are a very light press fit(I can push them in by hand). Will the bushings expand enough to fit properly on installation of the control arm? Thanks in advance for your replies.

    Bud,
I will bet that once you install the metal sleeve in the bushing, it will expand enough to make it pretty tight. You usually have to drive the steel sleeves in, or press them in in a vise. It is a shame that there is no rubber replacement bushings for C4 suspension parts! I guess that they just wanted you to buy new suspension parts. I rebuilt the C4 peices on my resto-rod 59, and had to use the urethane parts since there was no other alternative. I hope they don't squeek too bad! I used the graphite impregnated ones, so we will see....

      John,
The bushings I have came from Vette Brakes & Products. The steel sleeves are not as tight in the bushing as you desribed. I can slide the bushings on and off the steel sleeves with no more than half a grunt worth of effort. I'm concerned that, unless there is a significant amount of expansion that occurs during control arm installation, the bushing will work in the control arm and "eat itself" in no time. The "tef- cone" brake lube that came with the bushings, should that be applied between the bushing and the steel sleeve or between the bushing and control arm?
      Thanks

The lube should go between the sleeve and the urethane bushing only.

          Bud,

Have you contacted the supplier of your parts? I think that is where I would start.
