    '66 A/C fan shroud extension

    Hello,

Did all A/C cars have this extension on the bottom of the shroud? I am fairly certain my shroud is original to the car and it shows no signs of having had this piece attached.

    Thanks,

    Ian

Ian - Interesting situation. I've looked a lot of '66 and '67 small block C60 Corvettes and they have either had the fan ring or evidence that they had one at one time in their life; but it's also possible that someone forgot to install the fan ring and since it's the same basic fan shroud configuration, no one noticed and here we are 35 years plus later trying to analyze the situation. Since the sb C60 fan ring was installed on the production shroud, I trust you are at the point where you have determined that (1) there are no signs on the shroud of the holes to secure the fan ring, (2) there are the holes but no signs that the "U" nuts were ever installed and removed (you'll surely see evidence in the fiberglass), and (3) there are no signs that the "V" grooves in bottom portion of the production shroud have been made into slots to accept the bosses on the fan ring. That being the case, you're still faced with the situation (1) is it the original fan shroud or (2) has the fan shroud being replaced? Is there any evidence that the car has any front end repair or the radiator replaced that might have caused the fan shroud to be replaced? Aside of the judging aspects; understanding the and maintaining the cars originality without some supporting documentation from previous owners of your car regarding this, it's an option, a long shot but possible. Hopefully, other '66 Corvette (even '67 sb C60 cars since they have the same fan shroud) owners with sb C60 cars will respond to support the fact that on other cars it appears that the fan ring was never installed during production. Good luck. Pete
