For sometime I thought my convertable top was out of adustment because the top pins and the windshield receivers were off by about 3/8 of an inch. The top locks down but not correctly and it leaks in the rain. Resently I finished a hardtop, I figured it would line up but it is off the same as the convertable top. I've been told I may have to add a shim but checking my doors line up pretty even. Before I get into loosening the body, am I going in the right direction ? This is on a 64 convertable.

Re: Top and windshield aliegnment
Robert------
The fact that both the soft top and hardtop experience the same alignment problem worries me. To me, this indicates that the problem is not with the top assemblies. Are you sure of the structural integrity of the windshield frame? I'm not trying to worry you excessively, but weakening of the windshield frame due to corrosion can cause distortion and alignment problems. It can also cause water leaks which you also seem to be experiencing. So, I'd check this out first before looking for cures elsewhere. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Top and windshield aliegnment
The integrety of the windshield and firewall area appear to be good. That is why I thought the shims or shim area mounting may have compressed over the years. There is no evidence that the body has ever been off of the chassis. Also the water is coming in between the top and the windshield because the top does not fit tight enough. The rubber is good but not able to be pulled close enough.- Top
