    verifying C2 original equipment

I'm not yet adept at the archive search so I'll risk another question whose answer may lurk there. Without the benefit of a window sticker, protecto-plate or other original owner documentation, how can I trace original equipment information and other details regarding my 66? I know the dealer where the car was sold and I'm awaiting a reply from them. If I dead end there, what is next?
The car may have been a special order. The exterior color and the interior color were not offered together; as is shown in all the literature. The trim tag is correct, showing the combination: Laguna blue/silver, making me think this may have been a special order. Are special orders documented more than stock vehicles? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your note made me look it up and you are right, silver interior isn't a normal offering with a blue car. However, I have seen some.

Dealers could order "non-recommended" interior/exterior combinations of production colors and trims in those days, which weren't shown as available on the published charts; there was a box on the order form they had to check for the over-ride. It didn't cause anything special on the trim tag (like primer or non-Corvette colors did). I'd still check the trim tag.

Blue/Silver is indeed possible. I have a 66 coupe with that combination that has a Duntov and Bloomington Gold so many have checked the trim tag and seen it as original. Really a nice combo so I'm not sure why it wasn't a regular choice.

You're right Bill; it's a gorgeous combination. Over the years I've looked that tag over and it looks right to me...as in untampered. Back when I bought the car, I don't think fake tags were available. I met a guy years ago at Carlisle who said he had a car with that combo. He had a silver leather interior for sale but not at the show...Bill Stephanson of Red Alert Racing out of CT. Are you him?? Anybody know him? This combination is one of the nicest I've seen on any C1 or C2. Laguna blue was only offered in 66- so Gm lit says-and the silver gut really sets it off. Still no answers on where I can go for build documentation?

              Alex,

There are no build records, for Corvettes built before the move to Bowling Green. On 67 and later there was a work order glued to the top of the gas tank. So for 66 the only source would be from the original owner and he would have had to kept all the original paper work.

                If memory serves....

it still IS Chevrolet policy to provide the customer his choice of ANY RPO interior/exterior color combinations regardless of what are 'packaged' as recommendations.... I know a C5 was ordered in the UK this way based on the fine print in the US sales brochure reiterating the Chevy policy (car was electron blue exterior, torch red interior with white soft top--to make a 'Union Jack' silhouette).

As John says, orders within the standard production offering silhouette (unless a given combination is specifically prohibited) don't constitute a COPO deviation.

                  Alex,

--------Time dims the memory. I may have said I wanted a Laguna Blue car with silver interior as Ive always thought it would be extremely handsome combo. I also had a silver vinyl 66 coupe interior for sale a long time back, but I have never had a 66 with that color combo. I did build a white with silver interior coupe but it wasnt that color combo from the factory. Still have a few odd silver pieces of that interior left though. Jan and my long-time keeper is Laguna blue, but with a black leather interior, and is fairly well known in Corvette circles.
--------Oh! I was from the east back then, just a bit further east than Conn. on Cape Cod, but have since moved to balmy Michigan. Thanks for remembering me.............Bill S

Are you sure the St Louis build sheets have not been found?

                        Bill,
Time dimmed mine I guess; I thought it was leather. But not enough to forget Red Alert and the great Earthquake 88 T shirts that I bought from Jan at Carlisle. Still have them. I wore one to Vintage Race Week at Watkins Glen in September. Several die hard American muscle car guys went nuts. Nice to hear from you again and that all is well. My best to Jan. I also want to thank all those that responded to my question.
