I tried my rebuilt(corvette specialties) windshield washer pump for the first time since it was installed and it is leaking where the plastic hose outlet piece attaches. I tightened the four screws that attach it to the main body and it helped, but still leaks. The unit sat around for quite a few years between being rebuilt and being installed. I am assuming that maybe the gasget(if there is one) at the pump outlet attachment point dried out from sitting around. I don't want to overtighten the screws and strip the threads in the potmetal body. Any suggestions?

Re:C2 Windshield Washer Pump
Rob,
There is a thread which I posted on, about overhauling a washer pump (67) starting on October 02, 2004 with an update on October 09. In the update is a picture of a brand new defective check valve and the one I took off.
Between the plastic inlet outlet piece and the check valve is a triple circle O-ring which I would suspect is your problem. The O-ring is either defective, out of position, or fell out the bottom when you put the assembly back on the pump. (It falls out pretty easy, if you don't hold the assembly tightly together, when you screw it back on the pump)
Take a look at the archives as there is quite a bit of information on the washer pump. You can get a new outlet and check valve assembly at Kragens or Auto-zone that will do the job.

Re:C2 Windshield Washer Pump
I tried taking out the triple "o" ring and turning it around and putting it back in, still leaks. I can see how it would cause the leak I have. I'll get a new one as you suggested, and I have a feeling that will solve the problem,
Thanks Again.....- Top
