    Ammeter is not reading right

While working on my 71 sb coupe, I accidently grounded the power window relay thats on the firewall. So I checked the operation of the power windows and they work ok. No blown fuses. I had started the car an noticed that the ammeter was now not centered or just to the right of center like it normally dose. It now reads 3/4 to the right and even farther to the right when it shows it is charging. When it shows discharging, it moves almost back to the center of the guage. It seems its orientation is for normal operation is now 1/4 to the right of center. Any way I can get it back? Could the relay be damaged and causing the problem? I know I should have disconnected the battery, but I wasn't working on anything electrical, just tighting intake manifold bolts. I"ll do that next time. Any thoughts?

    Chas,

Your amp gauge hit the peg so hard that it moved the shaft on the pointer. You can take it out. Pull the pointer and zero it on the shaft. It will be fine.
