Another really tough part of converting to side exhaust is finding the correct clip nuts, or cage nuts, that are used to fasten the rocker trim molding and side exh cover. They're unique to this application and I don't think they were ever used on any part of a Corvette, or any other car for that matter. The same clip was used in the front of the cover to secure the cover support bracket to the splash pan between the frame and front fender skirt so at least one of these would be visible for judging. I have a close-up scan of this special clip here somewhere. The clips are much more difficult to find than NOS side covers.
