I've been reviewing and pricing 215/70R/15T and these Yokohoma Avid S/T's seem to get good reviews and a great price at around $50/each for my 327 '67. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Has anyone tried the Yokohoma Avid S/Ts

Face it, Duke, very few really think in terms of performance when searching for tires for these old Sting Rays. The fact that they will still pull a respectable .78 G and more with the right tires is not a normal action for cars that rarely make more than 2500 miles per year. Heck, my race car often got as many miles as many collector cars.
I think he is really looking for this:
1. I got great mileage 60,000+ -or- I got lousey mileage 10,000 and wore out.
2. They were great in the rain -or- They hydroplane in a light drizzle. (Not that anyone drives a Sting Ray in the rain, either.)
3. They handled great -or- they were like on ice.
4. They really looked good on my car -or- They looked funny in the wheelwells.
5. They rode great, snooth as silk -or- They were real harsh -or They developed a thump at 5,000 that never went away.
6. They were so smooth and quiet you never noticed them -or- They are so noisy I couldn't hear my sidepipes.
While your efforts with tires is appreciated, most just don't go there.- Top

Duke, Mike
I'm looking for the best perfoming tires for my car and the selection is very limited. I have a limited selection of reading material to go by on tire performance and handling in 70 series tires. I've had Yokohama's before on my 930 and they were great performers, not great on longevity, but thats not why you buy them. I notice that the selection of "performance tires" goes up if I drop down to a 65 series tire. However, I know they will not fill the wheel well like a 70 series tire will and not sure what size works well in a 65 series either.- Top

Re: Has anyone tried the Yokohoma Avid S/Ts
Buy the tire with the highest speed rating and the lowest wear rating. Forget about price. Most of us will never wear out a new set of tires on a C2.
Manufacturers - Goodyear, Yokohama, etc. make a broad range of tires from cheap low quality to ultra high performance, just as Chevrolet sells a broad range of cars from cheap econoboxes to a premium high performance sports car, so just because one brand/model worked out in one application does not mean another model will work out okay in another application. Likewise, just because a Corvette is great doesn't mean you would be happy with a Chevrolet Sprint.
Consider that a new set of OE replacement or equivalent quality/performance tires for a new Z06 will cost at least $1200, and they are the foundation of the Z06' brilliant road and track manners, so buying the best available tires for a C2 at a cost of about $500 mounted and balanced is a DEAL!!!
The 215/70R-15 size is an exact match for the 7.75-15 OE size in both terms of revs per mile and OD. I like accurate instruments including the speedometer. That's why I don't recommend deviating from this size, being as how there are some excellent choices - not a lot - but you only need one!

I recently installed a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A P215/70/R15 tires on my 66 driver. I put the black side out and colored in the white letters with a Sharpie. They look great and ride fantastic. They are a huge improvement over the touring radials that they replaced. I purchased them online at the Tire Rack and then took the rims and tires down to the local garage to have them mounted. Good luck....P.J.- Top
