Man, after they worked the bugs out, those two cars are MEAN MACHINES!

Of course the driver's ain't no slouches either

I love to see all that raw fuel flaring out the pipes when they back off and rotate through the turns.

      Thanks for the update Clem,

Whats your area of the country. If you want to see wheel to wheel racing C1,C2 and C3 Corvettes from days past, it's great stuff. Jerry

autox'ing, this oct 30 and 31 at the cumberland, md airport, the scene of SCCA championship races from 53 to 71. we're back running, autox at this point but if airport approval comes thru, we'll be racing wheel to wheel. anyone want to come and run in two weeks(old vettes and cobras as well as porsches, bmw's etc) go to nationalroadrally.com. great pics there of 50's and 60's scca racers, including the flying dentist and don yenko in a 57 fi. mike

                  Re:Refresh my memory

The sprint race was won by all the cars that do not run the 1 hour enduro race. No Corvettes or Camaro's finished the Endurance race. I guess the fast cars cannot run for 1 to 3 hours. The Chevy's certainly out ran the Fords this weekend!

All kidding aside, it was a great weekend. I personally enjoy the endurance races. More seat time than a sprint race. Usually a lot of attrition in the Endurance race. None of the sprint race front runners ran the enduro. This is normal at these races.

The 71 Camaro that won the Group 6 sprint race was FAST! Much faster than when it ran Trans Am back in the stone age. The age of Jerico Transmissions and great tires in Vintage Racing helps the higher speeds and lower lap times than when these cars ran originally. I believe Dick Mooney's 68 L-88 was the fastest Corvette at the race. I recieved a first hand view of L-88 power going up the hill after the "boot" as we both powered up the hill in 2nd, then 3rd in a qualifying race. Small block Ford is not a match for an L-88!

I know this board is all about RESTORATION. As much fun as you "may" think judging and restoration provides. It does not hold a candle to racing the famous tracks around this country in Vintage Race Car. No matter what brand you drive.

Drive Fast, Turn Heads, Break Hearts!!!!!

                    Re:Refresh my memory

                    Mike,

I agree. As I've said before, vintage racing is about the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Restoring and showing old race cars is great but actually getting out and racing again is the ultimate.

Now, about that Shelby GT-350 thing........

                      Re:Refresh my memory

hate to admit it , but i tend to agree that behind a wheel at speed is superior to turning wrenchs. however, in winter , resto about all we can do here in the mts of w. md. BTW, if you'd like to bring the ford to cumberland in two weeks, there is an old 61 vette that might be a tad quicker. regards and keep having fun. mike

                        Not JUST an L 88.. a ZL 1

How come those Camaroes are So fast. They have more weight and they have smaller engines. How does this happen??? The guys that have them are very good drivers but, hey were not all putz's that drive Corvettes. Aren't the basic laws of physics still in effect? Jerry

Vintage racing is like having sex when

                          you are 60.

Regular racing is like having sex when you were 25.

Restoration is like ... wait a minute, can you even compare restoration to having sex?

Re: The Glen would be my closest track

Earlier this summer, I pulled onto my work property to perform a weekend building check and could hear cars really turning up nearby but couldn't home in on just where it was coming from.

As I was leaving the buildings, I was able to look across a field to our local college parking lot. What I saw was an open wheel midget race car flying around a pylon course.

Welllll, I just had to investigate.

I believe it was an SCCCA (could be wrong here) sanctioned meet and they were running anything that had four wheels through a timed course. BMWs, 911s,Civics,a late model Camaro, a Viper, a C-5 and three open wheel midgets and my favorite an AMC Pacer!

Looked like a ton of fun.

The course was so tight that the Vette and the Viper just couldn't turn the horses loose. The cars I thought turned the fastest times was a 320i and the Camaro.

What are the next race dates for the Glen?
