    Paul-----

The 1957 single four barrel manifold was cast iron and it was painted Chevrolet orange with the rest of the engine. The 2 X 4 manifold was aluminum and it was not painted and left as natural aluminum.

The exhaust manifolds may have been partially or fully painted Chevrolet orange on some early small blocks when they left the engine plant. However, the paint was usually completely burned off by the time the engine left the St. Louis assembly plant in the car it was installed in.

As usual, Joe is right on here... I would add

that engine orange paint will usually remain on the "cool" spots of the exhaust manifolds which are normally the forward mounting embossments for generators and expansion tanks, etc. Dennis
