1981 "SPEC" Paint Code

Hi Folks,
It has been a while....I have 81 that has "SPEC" on the trim tag for the Paint Code....From what I have read it appears these were primer cars...I might be wrong....Is this true and do we know how many were built?

What's the build sequence number (last five digits of the VIN)...if you don't mind sharing. It may have been an early build car (pilot build). It was also first year for BG painted Corvettes...so is it a BG built car or St Louis? (The twelve digit is a "1" for BG and "4" for St Louis).

SPEC paint cars could be a color and may be listed on the tank sticker. If you 81 was built in B/G the museum will sell you a copy. Lyle

One possible way to "tell how many" is take the total number of cars painted each color, add them up, then subtract this "painted cars" number from the total 1981 Corvette production number. This may not always be perfect as I did this once for 1975 Corvette production and it showed 34,531 "painted" 1975 Corvettes, subtract that from total 1975 production, 38,465 and you get 3,934 "unpainted" cars. I highly, highly doubt 3,934 1975 Corvettes left the factory in "primer", but I guess it could've happened.
