We're starting restoration on a 71 big block convertible (4 speed,pw,ps,pb, a/c). Looking at the inside of the deck lid, there are two bumpers, one on either side. Usually there is only one on the left side. Also, the two pins (3966723-4) located in the corner of the inside deck lid on each side are not there and appear to have never been there (no sign of holes or repairs of holes or the sub-bracket that's riveted inside the glass is not there either). There are two sets of numbers raised in the deck lid that say 67 with several marks, then a strange number, more like two nines facing each other with a few more marks like dots. I haven't been able to find anything that tells me why there are no pins installed or why there are two bumpers. The rest of the car seems unmolested. Is it possible it came from the factory like this? Is it a GM replacement? Is it a big block convertible thing?

Re: C3 Deck lid

From what you describe, it sounds to me that the deck lid you have on the car is actually from a 68-69 Corvette. The 68-69 deck lids have the two bumber assemblies and they lack the pins you described. For whatever reason, the deck lid must have been replaced somewhere along the way. This is sort of unusual as deck lids don't often require replacement. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
