Because
what he is saying is that it is a 1964 service engine for a 1958 Corvette.
While no 1964 PRODUCTION Corvette engine was a 283, a 1964 SERVICE engine for a 1958 Corvette application was.
It would be like walking into your Chevy dealer in 1973 and buying an L88 over the counter.
It would be a 1973 L88, even though advertising that way would get lots of negative comments since we all know that L88s were only built from 1967 to 1969. All of us but Chevy.
And while you'd love to have a 1973 L88 crate engine today (because it is fun, not that it is applicable to any car for restoration), a 1963 crate 283 for a 1958 Corvette is not worth anything more than any 283, unless you want an interesting conversion piece, or unless it was the fuelie engine so it has the neat high performance stuff on it.- Top
