    82 vette exaust manifold refurbishing

The judging guide says that the exhaust manifolds are tubular stainless steel but does not mention a colour. (I thought stainless steel was bright silver) Mine is kind of a grey colour and shows some rust. How does one go about refurbishing them. What paint is used. Thanks guys

No paint just use a scotch brite pad to clean up the rust. The heat shields will cover most of the manifold anyhow.

At the last chapter meet, there was some discussion about the judging guide and the material for the exhaust manifold. I can't remember for sure, but I think they were not stainless. Easy to check with a magnet, stainless is generally non-magnetic. And perhaps more importantly, if you ever go for a Bowtie Award, you will HIGHLY regret using anything more agressive than some Simple Green on the pipes to remove any rust. The point deduction for a little rust is small in Flight Judging.

Enter your car for Flight Judging at the next Chapter Meet, and get the judges recomendations before you sand or paint the manifold. It's one of those things that is impossible to UN-do. Hope this helps!

      Regards.....
