Need source for a 1966 L79 air cleaner lid

Can anyone suggest a source for a good used air cleaner cover for a '66 L79? I need a lid that has the correct rolled lip on the hole where the carb stud goes thru. I was told by Paragon that their cover does not have the correct rolled lip and therefore the Paragon part will receive a deduct during judging.

Also, are there any alternatives to the $180 price quote I was given from Paragon for the addition of the underside decal and flash chroming of used lid? $180 seems a little steep, expecially if I have to supply the air cleaner lid.

    Thanks,

    Gary

i paid over 125 to have a similar lid plated by Pauls chrome plating shop 5 to 7 years ago.a nos lid, if ya found one from a seller who knows values, would probably be 4 x what paragon wants to replate an original. one the other hand, the points deduct for the repo lid without rolled lip usually not too excessive. good luck, mike

      Mike,

Sounds like I should accept the $180 cost, if that's what it takes, but I still don't know where to get a good used lid.

        Gary-----

Usually, there are lots of used examples for sale on eBay. These things were not unique to 1966 Corvettes or, even, Corvettes. The same lid was used for most 1966-68 Chevrolet applications with small block or big block and open element air cleaners.

A very similar, if not indiscernably different, lid was used for 1969-72 Chevrolet applications with open element air cleaners.

So, there's plenty of these things out there.

            Point Deduct

I have the Pargon lid on my engine and the point deduct was 2 points out of the 4500 in Windsor. I can accept this before I would pay big bucks for one. Mike

              Mike; a follow-up

              Mike,

Which Paragon lid do you have? The triple chrome or the flash chrome?

                Re: Mike; a follow-up

Gary not sure it was bought a few years ago. Looks like flash chrome. I just reread and mine is a 65 L79 not a 66. Not sure if there the same. Mike

65 and 66 not the same

                  Mike,

According to the Paragon website, the lid they sell is for 66-69, so there must be some difference between the 65 and the later lids.

                    Gary-----

1965 small blocks used a completely different configuration air cleaner than the 66+ open element style. The 1965 L-78 air cleaner cover was the same configuration as the 66+ except that the 65 L-78 cover was powder coated black whereas all 66 and later were chrome.
