I have a '72 LT-1, great car, everything works... somethings too well. The wiper door system works, but it seems to close too early and grabs the wipers before they go completely down. I don't know if this means that the wipers don't get down soon enough or the door closes too early. Is there some way to adjust the timing of this little ballet?

Re: Wiper door grab
First, a copy of the Chassis Service Manual would be a GREAT addition to your support library for 'baby'....since Corvette was the only car in the Chevy lineup that was NOT Body by Fisher, the CSM book is loaded with Corvette specific body details that will help you.
Specifically, there's a section on the Corvette wiper door. There, you'll find there's a vac relay mounted in the cowl on the passenger side that the RH wiper arm parks against. When the wiper arm strikes the vac relay, it signals the wiper door to close. There are minor adjustments for the valve via enlongated holes with two bolts holding the valve to its mounting platform. This is what adjusts WHEN the wiper door starts to close....- Top

Ross:
I have the same problem on my '69. It seems to be an intermittent problem, but I also discovered that if you slide the wiper switch off while the wipers are in a "down" stroke, they will clear the door every time.

Re: Wiper door grab
Until you get a new vacuum valve or yours adjusted, just use the pull down switch to keep the wiper door open until your wipers are in place, then close the wiper door. This is the manual mode vs automatic, back up systems are nice and they give you time to fix the problem and still drive the car.- Top
