    Does anyone remember ACME Fabricating?

I am trying to tie up some loose historical ends on my 63 vert. One thing that has puzzled me for 15 years is a shipping label and a delivery record that was in the paper work I got when we purchased the car in 1989. The 5/5/1974 Delivery record from REA Express lists 1 CTN of Auto Parts from ACME Fabricating, 2409 E. 17th St, Oakland Califonia, Shipped to Phoenix, AZ. The CTN weighed 180lbs and had a shipped value of $448. I suspect it is for a body part/parts. The car had a tilt front end! Did ACME sell such a product in 1974? Any help would be appreciated. Yes they made custom front ends for lots of old Corvettes.. see miss piggy in one of the old Restorers. also look in any Hot Rod or custom magazine of the 60s.

          Thank you....

Bill, Thanks for the update. I will line up some old mags and see if I can find the offending piece. Now I know who did this to this poor old Vette. Rickie Lee Pryatt you've got some 'splanin' to do!

In comparison Rev. Mike's Miss Piggy was nice looking compared to this item....

            I have a 1972 Acme Fabricating catalog

In it, on page 8, is Part #600. This is a tilt front end for a '63-7 Corvette. It has '67 side louvers and a '67 427 hood skin. The seam where the tilting hood surround panel mates to the side louver panels is about one inch below the horizontal peak body line. Headlight openings were cut out or could be left in for a $10 extra charge. The front end assembly price at that time was $500 list, $375 "shop net". It did not come with inner wheelwells. They cost $36.67/27.50 each.

Acme Fabricating was owned by Morris and Vonda Zusman in 1972. It was located at 790 Golden Gate in San Francisco. That is and always was very pricey real estate. Perhaps they moved across the Bay by 1974 to cheaper digs.

              Eric:

I have a catalogue also, as Jerry states. The catalogue shows all the different fiberglass custom parts for both the C1, C2 & C3 generation cars to about 1973. They show black and white pictures of wrecked 'vettes and then a picture of them repaired, both with stock and custom made pieces. They were located in San Francisco at this time.

Re: Does anyone remember ACME Fabricating?

Warren/Jerry, Thank you for the information. The front end did match the description you gave. It did not have the headlights cut out, it had them mounted in the grill opening. Ok, Now I know for sure who did the conversion. I wonder if rickie still has the old front clip? Now off to find the whereabouts of Mr. Pryatt. NCRS is a such great resource. I am never suprised by its colective brain! If either of you gets a chance, a scan of the picture of the tilt clip would be very much appreciated. Eric

If you send me your e-mail address, I will respond with a photo of the ad. I can't attach anything to the NCRS e-mail form.

                      Update

Thanks to Jerry Bramlett and others I can finally close the book on When the tilt front end was added to our 63. Jerry sent me some pictures of a period ACME catalogue. The tilt front end look exactly like the on pictured in the cattalogue. I have posted them here for future researchers. Eric
