I bought a 66 big block twenty years ago. When it was time to re-do the tired motor, we discovered that the car did not have the original motor. The casting number is 3902406 (there is what appears to be a sideways "p" under the number). Can anyone tell me what this motor is? The trim plate indicates TO428IV, T226435. Can anyone tell me what this means? Thanks for your help.

Re: Big Block casting numbers - 65-66
Gary, you have a 1967 396 ci. engine. 2 or 4 bolts mains. I got this information off the web at www.mortec.com
No mention of HP rating as I'd have to have your broached pad suffix letters. I hope that hasn't been altered to make it look like a 427.
Check it out. As for the other ID numbers I can't help you. Do you remember where you bought this car? Please post if you do.
Good luck,grr#33570- Top

Gary-----
Your engine block began its life as a 325 hp 396 installed in a full size 1967 Chevrolet with Turbohydramatic 400 trans which was assembled at the old GM Tarrytown, NY vehicle assembly plant. The engine was assembled in Tonawanda, NY on April 28, 1967 and was probably installed in a car built sometime in late May, 1967.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
