    C1 Engine Dates

My car is a '58. The engine casting is 3737739. The cast date is K17 and the build date is F404CT. I read this as a '58 block cast November 1, 1957, but built April 4, 1958 as a 4 X 4 245 hp with 4-speed. Is this correct? I bought the engine almost 30 years ago and I don't think re-stamping was the thing then. I purchased the engine from a chicken farmer who bought the car it came in new and blew the engine in the sixties and put in a 327. Believe it or not, the engine was in the chicken barn and had a bad crack. I had the engine totally rebuilt in 19 83. Bored 40 thousandth's, new crack and everything else. Any help on this one would be appreciated. Five months from casting to build date - seems a stretch.

Not "usual" but within the realm of possibility given the "last in first out" inventory process at the Flint engine plant.
