C2 63 hood grills paint

i'm refinishing my hood grills and i've stripped the old paint off and buffed them up and i'm ready to paint. my problem is, the painted area looks to slick to hold the paint and hard to ruff up without scratching the shinny part. has anyone had any experience with with this?

I painted mine about 3 years ago. I don't remember the paint I used but it has held up just fine. I used 1/8" masking tape and primed then painted.

A good self etching primer will provide a quality base for your topcoat.

those who specialize in self-etching paints, like SEM, offer them in various colors and shades. If you visit a full-line automotive paint retailer in your area who stocks SEM, you'll find a VERY nice selection of shades of black since this is typically what's used to finish today's WSW arms/blades, luggage racks, Etc.
