    60 defrost bezel color

I am in the process of replacing the dash on my 1960. The defrost bezels are in need of a repaint. I plan to blast them with glass beads and prime. I am looking for suggestions for paint from other members that have redone their bezels and had good results. The interior color is red. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Re: My goodness. If you REALLY have to

I guess my question was not very clear. I am looking for the correct color code or manufacturer, Dupont, PPG or does NAPA carry something that is correct? (I'll admit I am a "Rookie" at Corvette restorations, but I do know there are many shades of red out there, and lavender would definitely clash with a new red dash

          Red paint

Steve, I doubt you'll find any formula-mixed red paint that will match the shade of the already painted parts of your interior.

The good news is that most automotive paint stores can now custom mix a color to match the sample you bring in and package the paint in a 16 oz. aerosol spray can. This service only costs about $20 locally.

Go to www.autocolorlibrary.com for the info you are seeking. Also www.themotorcompany.com has your paint in either bulk or spray cans. I've used them both and the only problem with the spray cans is getting the same shine as out of a spray gun. Practice on an old piece till you get it right.

              Steve...

Corvette Central sells interior lacquer paint (p/n 131075-**) in 12 oz. aerosol. The color match is very good and lacquer can be buffed or left unbuffed as recommended for the steering cover, hub and turn signal housing.

                Re: 60 defrost bezel color

Steve, when I repainted my 1960 bezels a year ago, I used aerosol cans from Corvette Central. The paint color matched the Al Knoch dash pad color perfectly. Just had trouble making the paint stick to the pot metal; despite using a self-etching primer.

I would glass bead it and then wipe it down carefully with laqure thinner. Don't touch it with your bare hands. I would then buy a high quality primer in a can at your local auto paint store. They have metal etching primer in a can or weld through type primer. It is high quality. I would then select a paint that most closely approximates the original color. As far as gloss goes, even if they were originally high gloss (I don't know one way or the other)they probably ended up about a semi-gloss after a short period of time from wear and tear. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. Have fun, Terry
