    C1 M.S.O. info.

I have a copy of the original MSO (Mfg. Statement of Origin) for my 62. The MSO is dated (typed) July 11th, 1962. My question is this. Is this the date that the car was built, or is this the date that the car was shipped from St. Louis, or could it even be the date that the car reached the dealer? I called the factory in BG in hopes of getting an answer, but no luck. I am trying to determine the car's build date. (no special reason...just want to know). The car's VIN shows it to be #13796. Thanks in advance, Steve

I a number of MSO for C3 cars along with the factory invoice and window stickers. I will see what dates if any match up on them and get back to you. GL

Steve, I've work in the auto industry for the last 25 years, My job is to orders new vehicle's. I would 100% disagree with Loren, the MSO is generated the day the car is to be built, so July 11th is correct. By the way IF you have a orig. MSO and the car was never registered you could sell it as a NEW VETTE. If this case you are a VERY VERY lucky person.

Hate to be right, but I looked at the MSO

for '62 #13918 AGAIN, and it STILL reads July 17, 1962. Now EXACTLY what part of that do you "100% disagree" with??

Loren, How could the MSO be dated July 11th, the Vin# matches the built date of the car, July 11th, but you say it shows July 17th??

                They're right READING IS FUNDAMENTAL

If you look at his message and then my note "NM", one might actually realize that there are TWO MSO DATES FOR TWO CARS!! I thought he might be interested in ANOTHER car's MSO date that is less than 200 units from his - little did I know that the MSO copy that I read was 100% wrong. However I bow to your wisdom - all '62's built after 13700 received an MSO dated July 11..........

I know my cars are not as old as yours but here is some info:
I have a brand new 1977 that has never been titled which is still on the MSO.
The date printed on the MSO is June 15 1977, Build Sheet June 9 1977, Body Build/Trim Tag June 9 1977 (K09)
My other Corvette has a MSO of Nov. 4 1976, Build Sheet Nov. 3 1976, Build Trim Tag Nov. 9 1976
I do not see any dates on the window stickers. As far as I can tell there is no consistency between the two cars I own.

                    Re: C1 M.S.O. info.

Mike I can't really speak for 62's, but for what it is worth, I would like to give you some history of my 67 VIN#194677s1054XX. Final assembly was on Dec. 7, 1966, in the afternoon. I have the following original papers, the MSO which indicates on Dec. 12, 1966 Chevrolet Motor Division transferred the said vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer it was shipped to and subsequently bought form. The MSO also has an invoice number on it that coincides with the invoice number on the Chevrolet Motor Division shipping paper, whidh I have. The shipping paper indicates that the car was shipped by rail on Dec. 9, 1966 and the date of execution to the Chevrolet dealer was Dec. 12, 1966. The shipping paper lists all the equipment and options the car left the plant with, along with their suggested retail price and dealer net price. The shipping paper also has the VIN # on it and the dealer location code.
I have the original Bill of Sale and it shows that the car was purchased on Dec. 14, 1966 and the original Certificate of Title indicates that the car was first registered on Dec. 14, 1966 also. The title number is also stamped on the MSO.
Sorry for the length of this but flow of the dates can really be seen by this.

                      Someone, please clarify M.S.O. meaning

I thought the MSO was a CERTIFICATE the manufacturer, i.e. GM (don't know about any others) delivered the car's legal entity to the selling GM dealer.

Geoffrey, your understanding of the MSO is just as I have always known it to be. My response was to show Mike L #9525 that his thoughts on how and when an MSO was dated was incorrect as far as my 67 is concerned and this is probably the same for most other cars. The dates that I provided in my response clearly shows the sequence in which these documents are dated.

Yes all GM vechicles have a MSO from General Motors Corporation to Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick etc Motor Division then transferring to a certain dealership/distributor. In rare cases you can request the MSO at time of new vechicle purchase, but to drive on state/public roads one must submit the MSO to Division/Bureau of Motor Vechicles to create a title in their respective state.
