    Points loss for 'replacement' manifold

Could anyone tell me what judging points 'hit' might be taken for having one factory 'replacement' (the in-service replacement) exhaust manifold in otherwise excellent condition? Car is a 64 coupe/327-300hp.

    Thanks,

Please define "replacement" in a little more detail, same casting number, varying only in date? Same casting number but with obvious visual changes in addition to date? different number but similar configuration, different number and different configuration?

      Bill,

It's the driver's side manifold, and it's got the right casting number (3846563), but the numbers are larger than those on the passenger side and there is what appears to be a date casting: 6-13-74 on the rear 'horn'. As well, there are 'grinding' marks 1 1/2-2" long on several places along where the top casting seam 'slag' normally is found. There are also three letters that appear to have been stamped into the metal: SCC, just above the apparent casting date. On my 65's manifold, the casting number is the same, but it's cast in much smaller numbers as part of a 'boss', with impressions from the screws that held the 'boss' in place clearly visible. I'm guessing that it is some kind of service part, probably cast on June 13, 1974. What do you think and what kind of deduction would I be looking at if I went ahead and used this part, in otherwise pristine condition?

      Thanks, in advance,

      grant

Re: Points loss for 'replacement' manifold

Exhaust namifolds are judged as a set, and the configuration of you manifold identifies it as one of the "typical" service replacement items from the mid-70's, so take the total points available for Originality on the exhaust manifold, divide by two (you are now down to a small number) and allow between 40-60% originality credit for the one replacement manifold and you should be close.
