    1974 Air Cleaner & Labeling

Which air cleaner label is correct for a car with a build date of Jan. 11, 1974, DO 6487577 A329C or DB 8994323 A348C? The TIM states that during mid 1974 production the label changed to part number DB 8994323 A348C. Where does the above build date fall within the 1974 production year?

Ray - I can't answer your time frame question, but I can tell you that if you have the 329 filter it is a thinner filter. I have a 74 with an L82, and it has the dual snorkel unit that seals to the hood with the seal. The 348 is a taller filter, I and suspect won't clear the hood with the dual snorkel air cleaner. Mine is an Oct 24 built and is number 6823... Craig

I have an LS4, the air cleaner is a dual snorkel with an A348C label on it. Currently I have an A329C filter installed. The larger A348C filter does fit. Of what I have, I'm just not sure which is correct, the current label or the current filter?

HI Ray, ok, I didn't think the 348 would fit, but if it does, I guess we can't tell from that....I didn't think the height would clear the underside of the hood. Sorry I can't help more......Craig

Ray From a judging standpoint if the label appears original I would expect to see a filter as described on the label. The judging manual states the change to A348C happened around March of 74 for L48/L82 but no information on the 454.If I had to make a call I would think the 454 happened at the same time as the top ring is the only 454 only part of the air cleaner and information on 454's is harder to get as few were made. Lyle, I missed the March '74 change date in the TIM. Not sure if the current label is original, but I should be able to clarify as I have the ability to communicate with the person who restored the car. Thank you, and everyone else who contributed, for the insight. Ray
