Joe Lucia, the good Doctor said to call

    Hi Joe:

I was up a Geoffry Coenen's warehouse last week discussing a problem I am having with the wipers on my 1974. He suggested I contact you upon your return from your Northeast tour.

Both wipers on my car run off the windshield. I have adjusted them per the Assembly Manual without success.

I was told by a fellow on Vetteheads that at rest there should be some spring tension when the left side wiper is at the stop position against the park stop bracket. Even with the TRANS ASM NUTS adjusted to the max the left wiper comes to a rest above the stop bracket.

One suggestion I received from an earlier NCRS Post was to bend the wiper arm.
This would work provided I don't break the arm.

    Do you have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Bill #39624

Bill do the 74 wipers have the adjustment screw on the side of the arm? Some early 74's had metal tubes do you have this style or the ones with rubber hoses. Lyle

      Bill-----

The problem that you describe is VERY, VERY common on early C3s; in fact, it's practically pandemic. I really believe that it was a design problem that didn't get sorted out until later C3s. From what you've already tried, I think that the only further solution would involve slightly bending the arm. If you're careful, I don't think that you'll break it, but there's always the risk. Furthermore, if you get it right, I don't think that the car will be "as original" anymore; I fully expect that the way it is now is just exactly the way it came from the factory.

        Hello Joe:

The 74's do not have the adjustment screw that Lyle mentioned so I guess I'll give up and bend the arm. Thanks for the history on the problem.
