C2: 67 Seat Belt Retainer Boot- How do you

get the boot off the retainer assembly without breaking the plastic boot part which goes across the mounting plate? Is there a method or a trick?

67 "Retractor" Boot- Got it off with advice

from Jack Humphrey, and an hour setting in the California sun. Thanks, Jack.

Now I need to know how to get the belt off the retractor reel without getting the spring all over the room. The little white spring case on the side of the reel says "Caution - Do Not Remove"

I'm trying to get the belt off the reel, so that I can refinish the reel bracket.
